Ippocalyptica It is always a beautiful thing to trace the evolution of a great band’s sound from its early days to the present, and with this reissue, we can see how Blaze or Perdition started off creating far simpler and shorter song structures that were heavily indebted to Watain for inspiration. While I much prefer the band’s current, much more ambitious output, I will always find all of Blaze of Perdition’s work to be fascinating, high-quality black metal. Favorite track: Decay of God's Creation.

I heard a recent 2021 metal album that was, in two words, fucking atrocious (hint - the band starts with "Kos" & has some of the worst album art in recent memory). With the sound of that shitty album still ringing in my ears, I went to my go-to band to wash it away: Blaze of Perdition. This album is just so deep, complex & epic with my favorite Sonneillon vocals to date. But definitely check "Ashes Remain" the next time you hear a superficial band trying too hard. Mikolaj is a real multi-talent in bass as well as guitar as well as vocals and "Darkside" Maciej's drumming is a well-calibrated 100th-of-seconds-clockwork. Not for nothing is Mgla considered as a standard for a lot of other blacker-than-black metal bands. I hope to see this band live once..... grote_smurf
